|
Council Member Angel Rodriguez is a forthright, hardworking, dedicated family man who has
been active in his Southwest Brooklyn community for over 20 years. The newly elected Council Member for the 38th Councilmanic district, which includes many of the neighborhoods of Southwest Brooklyn, such as Boerum Hill, Red Hook, Gowanus, Wyckoff, Windsor Terrace, Bay Ridge, Park Slope, Carroll Gardens and Sunset Park, is a lifelong Brooklynite.
Council Member Rodriguez is married to the former Lisa Maldonado of Carolina, Puerto Rico
and East Harlem and is the proud father of a boy and a girl, Adam, 14, and Melissa, 12. Rodriguez's concern for the people of his district is shared by the members of his family. It is not an uncommon sight to see Lisa and the kids alongside him when he volunteers his time at activities for the homeless, graffiti removal and other community projects.
Angel Rodriguez is an accountant by profession. He has owned and administered a management
and small business accounting firm for the last 15 years. His company, which has serviced many of small and medium-sized commercial enterprises throughout all of Brooklyn, has helped ensure the success of many of the Hispanic businesses in the area.
Council Member Rodriguez is eminently aware of the value of hard work and perseverance and it
is his adherence to those very characteristics that give him his particular view and approach to the issues of family, industry and community.
Council Member Rodriguez is a product of the New York City public school system and is the
first member of his family to graduate from college, having attended the City University at the College of Staten Island where he studied accounting and economics. He is an ardent proponent of quality public education and is adamantly opposed to cuts and will insist that the city university (CUNY) system remain affordable to the majority of poor and working class New Yorkers who rely on it for their educational advancement.
He is also an unequivocal supporter of technology in education, having established a completely
free of charge, full-access computer center when he formerly headed the non-profit organization Together We Help. That center is under consideration as a model for effective technology education statewide. |
